Finishing touches are being put into the ongoing work on the Louisa County Highway 99 Bridge at Wapello.
Barring any setbacks, the project should be completed by at least July 10 after a paint striping.
The bridge may be essentially free of construction workers and detritus by the time the upcoming weekend wraps up, but the Muscatine Journal reported that it will not carry traffic immediately since work on the Franklin Street approach to the new structure needs to be finished as well.
Louisa County Engineer Adam Shutt told the county’s board of supervisors that he is crossing his fingers for a grand opening soon.
Shutt assumed his current position earlier this month after his predecessor and former boss Larry Roehl retired.
Aside from the Highway 99 bridge and Franklin Street projects, Shutt reported that a new bridge on S Avenue west of Morning Sun is slated to open to traffic.
