Beginning August 16th, the traffic signals at Broadway Avenue and 2nd Street/Iowa Highway 1 will not be operational. North and south bound traffic will become through traffic (no stop), while east bound traffic will be required to stop. All traffic must yield to pedestrians in the cross walks as required by State Law.
The signals will remain off until October 18th . The purpose of this test is to determine what new concerns or unintended consequences there will be with the potential removal of this signal. The signals are near the end of their useful life, and with an estimated $300,000 replacement cost the City is looking into alternatives to replacement. See Memo for further information.
