At 11:15 AM Wednesday July 27, 2022 the Burlington Fire Department responded to 2068 Highland Avenue in Burlington for a report of a house full of smoke. Firefighters arrived at 11:20 AM and located a fire in a second-floor bedroom. The fire was declared extinguished at 11:35 AM.
The house is owned and occupied by Brandon and Katelyn Orth. Nobody was at home at the time of the fire. Mr. Orth returned home to find the house full of smoke and detectors sounding. Firefighters were able to locate and contain the fire to the second-floor bedroom, but the house sustained smoke damage throughout. Damages are estimated at $75,000 to structure and contents. The house is insured.
The fire remains under investigation by the Burlington Fire Department and is not considered suspicious.
Twelve Burlington firefighters responded to the scene and were assisted by two West Burlington firefighters responding on automatic aid. Burlington Police Department and Alliant Energy also assisted at the scene. Firefighters cleared the scene at 1:03 PM. There were no injuries.
