SPRING BRUSH PICKUP

Starting May 2, 2022 at 7:00 AM

• All brush (burnable/chippable) should be put in a neat pile adjacent to the

Street (curbside).

• Brush pick-up is for residential use only, we will not pick up from businesses.

• Nothing bigger than 24” in diameter and 13’ in length.

This does not include leaves and yard waste, which will continue to be picked up in the City

Yard Waste Bags with regular trash pickup day.

• Brush must be placed by the curb and away from poles, fences, and *water shut-offs

By 7:00 AM on May 2

, to ensure pick up. We will not make a second trip.

*If any damage occurs due to brush being placed over water shut-offs, the City will not

be responsible.

• Piles must not interfere with traffic.

• Please do not place brush out before Monday, April 25

• This will be an ideal time to do any brush / tree trimming.

COMPOST SITE

Any resident of the City of Fairfield may utilize the compost site by hauling their own brush,

limbs and yard clippings to the compost site. Signs are posted at designated areas for their

specific type of yard waste, please compost accordingly.

The compost site is not for use by contractors.

FREE MULCH & COMPOST

The City of Fairfield’s compost site is located at 20th St & Jackson Ave.

At any time, you are more than welcome to load the mulch / compost yourself, or

you may contact the Maintenance Shed at 641-472-4750 Monday – Friday 7:00

AM to 3:00 PM to make an appointment for a city employee to use a loader for the

loading of pick-up trucks and / or dump trucks.

The City will not be held liable for any damage that may occur in the loading

process.

VEGETATION REGULATIONS

All premises and exterior property shall be maintained free from weeds and plant growth in excess of ten

inches. Properties shall also be maintained of all weeds, grass, vines, brush and dead, damaged or unsightly

bushes, trees or other offensive growth which constitute a health, safety or fire hazard, or are detrimental to

the neighborhood unless except as part of an approved compost system. Including vegetable and flower

gardens shall be maintained free of weeds during the growing season.

In the event of failing to cut or destroy such weeds and plant growth, the department of public works may

cut or remove these and assess the costs (minimum $190.00) to the property owner.

Please keep your yard mowed (this includes the “parking” or “right-of-way” – the area between your

sidewalk and the street) and your garden free of weeds.

Grass clippings are not permitted to be blown into the street.

RIGHT-OF-WAY REGULATIONS

A Right-of-Way Permit is required any time work is done in the City right-of-way by a property owner,

utility company or contractor not working for the City. Work requiring a permit includes, but is not limited

to, replacement or construction of sidewalk or driveways, excavations for sewer / water repairs, installation

of utilities in the City right-of-way, tree planting / landscaping, and dumpster placement.

If you are unsure if a Right-of-Way Permit is required, please contact the Planning & Zoning Department at

City Hall.

NO structure, object, weeds, plantings, or any

other item may be placed within six (6) feet of a fire hydrant.

BURNING

Burning of yard waste, leaves and brush is allowed during the daylight hours only, in the

months of April, October and November on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays only. Such

burning is allowable only when wind conditions are appropriate and must be contained and

supervised at all times. Burning is not allowed in streets or alleys. Burning of trash and household garbage

and scrap building materials is not allowed.

PARKING RESTRICTIONS

No vehicle may park on any City street for more than twenty-four consecutive hours.

Central Business District: All vehicles parked in the Central Business District must be

off the street in that District to permit scheduled street cleaning without parked vehicle

interference. Parking will not be permitted in that District between the hours of midnight

and 6:00 AM. the last Thursday of April through October.

Violators will be towed and impounded at the owner’s expense.
