City of Burlington recently issued the following announcement.
At 4:11 am Friday February 11, 2022 the Burlington Fire Department was dispatched for a house on fire at 2500 Vineyard Street in Burlington. Firefighters arrived at 4:17 am and found heavy smoke coming from the 1-1/2 story wood frame home, owned and occupied by Larry and Janice Caston. Firefighters were able to quickly make entry into the home and get the fire under control by 4:33 am.
Burlington Firefighters were assisted at the scene by the West Burlington Fire Department on automatic aid, Danville Fire on mutual aid, Burlington Police, Superior ambulance and Alliant Energy. Seven off-duty Burlington Firefighters also were summoned to assist and cover any additional emergency calls.
There were no injuries to the occupants as they were alerted to the fire by working smoke detectors prior to calling 911.
The cause of the fire was the result of heat from a wood burning fire place in the living room that ignited materials above the ceiling. The home did sustain significant water, smoke and fire damages. Fire crews cleared the scene at 5:46 am.
