Vikings Fall Short at Clarke

Grand View University recently issued the following announcement.

The Grand View University Vikings traveled to Clarke University to play the Pride in a Heart of America Conference game. The Vikings struggled to find their footing throughout and fell by a final score of 79-51.

Game Recap

The game was tight early, as the Pride held an 8-7 lead at the 5:18 mark of the 1st quarter. The teams would continue the back and forth until Clarke used a quick 11-3 run to make the score 21-10. The Vikings ended the run with a bucket of their own but trailed 25-13 at the end of the 1st quarter. The start of the 2nd quarter was much like the start of the 1st with both teams going back and forth on the scoreboard. With 5:25 remaining in the 2nd quarter, the Pride led the Vikings 33-21. The Pride would use an 11-6 run throughout the end of the 2nd quarter to lead 44-27 at the halftime break. Scoring came at a premium for both teams to start the 3rd quarter. At the 7:20 mark, each team had only made one basket apiece to make the score 46-29. The Vikings would continue to play touch defense and cut the Pride lead to 46-33 with 6:26 remaining in the 3rd quarter. The Pride would use a timeout and proceed to go on a 13-0 run to make the score 58:33 with 2:29 remaining in the quarter. The Vikings would end the run and trail the Pride 63-42 at the end of the 3rd period. Clarke used an 8-0 run to start the 4th to put the game out of reach for the Vikings. The Vikings would continue to fight throughout the game but would fall to the Pride by a final score of 79-51.

Game Stats

Isabel Gscheidle (JR/Wonder Lake, Illinois ) was the lone Viking in double figures, scoring 12 points. Shannon Pisney (SR/Lime Springs, Iowa) and Ella Larsen (FR/Fonda, Iowa) both added 9 points apiece. The Vikings shot 27% from the floor and 20% from behind the 3 point line. The Vikings were outrebounded 53-30.

Up Next

The Vikings will be back in action Saturday, January 8th in Baldwin City Kansas to face off with Baker University. The game is set to start at 2:00 pm.
