Jefferson County Health Center issued the following announcement on November 11.
Jefferson County Health Center has welcomed a new surgeon to the JCHC Professional Clinic. Scott Stoeger, M.D., Ph.D., joined JCHC on November 1 and provides general surgery services.
“I chose to become a surgeon because I enjoy seeing the immediate, beneficial results the patients experience,” said Dr. Stoeger. “And I chose JCHC because of the small-town atmosphere and increased opportunities to develop long-lasting relationships within the community.”
Bryan Hunger, CEO, said the organization spent much of the first half of 2021 searching for a general surgeon. When Dr. Stoeger interviewed, Hunger knew they had found the best candidate.
“Depending on the position we’re trying to fill, the search and selection process can take up to 12 or 18 months,” Hunger said. “Dr. Stoeger entered into conversations early in the process, and we were immediately impressed with his professionalism, experience, and expertise. We can’t wait for him to meet with our patients and become an integral part of JCHC’s talented group of healthcare professionals.”
Dr. Stoeger’s experience encompasses all parts of general surgery, including appendectomies, endoscopies, abdominal surgeries, gallbladder removal, hernia repair, and more. In addition to his surgical experience, Dr. Stoeger has also held several teaching and research positions, including time at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids.
Dr. Stoeger is now seeing patients at the JCHC Professional Clinic and works closely with other JCHC care providers to address patients’ surgical needs, along with existing surgeons Dr. Beth Hothan-Zielinski and Dr. Gregory Ivins.
