Jefferson County Health Center issued the following announcement on October 01.
On Friday, September 23, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended a booster dose of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine in specific populations.1 On Monday, September 27, the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) updated their vaccine guidance to align with the CDC.2
Effective immediately, Jefferson County Health Center (JCHC) will administer Pfizer COVID-19 booster doses to eligible populations. In order to be eligible, you must:
- Have completed your initial vaccine series with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, AND;
- at least six (6) months must have passed since you completed your initial vaccine series.
- Individuals age 65+ SHOULD receive a booster
- Residents of long-term care facilities SHOULD receive a booster
- Individuals age 50-64 with underlying medical conditions SHOULD receive a booster
- Individuals age 18-49 with underlying medical conditions MAY receive a booster, based on their individual benefits and risks
- Individuals age 18+ who are at an increased risk of COVID-19 exposure and transmission due to their occupational or institutional settings MAY receive a booster, based on their individual benefits and risks
