Notice of Annual Fire Hydrant Flushing

Noticee

City of Burlington issued the following announcement on September 9.

The Burlington Municipal Waterworks will begin flushing all fire hydrants beginning September 9, 2021 and will continue for 5 - 6 weeks. During this time residents may experience temporary low pressures and/or discolored water.

If discolored water is experienced, the Waterworks suggests residents let their cold water run in a sink or bathtub, capable of draining the flow, for up to 20 minutes. If the problem still persists, please notify the Waterworks Office at (319)754-6501, or after hours notify the Water Treatment Plant at (319)752-7611.

For those customers with a water meter, letting the water run may increase the amount of your bill. Additionally, customers may notice a slight chlorine odor as the Waterworks will be disinfecting with free chlorine during the flushing process and returning to chloramines for disinfecting when the flushing is completed.
