HYDRANT FLUSHING
The Water Department will start the annual fall flushing Monday, October 4 th . Flushing will be divided into three sections and take the following course:
1) North Section (North of Burlington Ave) Starting on the Northeast side of town heading to the Northwest side
2) Southwest Section (South of Burlington Ave & West of South Main St) Starting on South Main St heading west and ending at Suburban Heights
3) Southeast Section (South of Burlington Ave & East of South Main St) Starting on South Main St heading east and ending at the Country Club
Flushing could take several months depending on the area and unscheduled occurrences.
You may experience rusty colored water, low water pressure and / or possible periods of no water at all. Also, a strong chlorine smell is typical as we will be using free chlorine. Please run cold water until the rusty color clears so rusty water doesn’t get into your hot water system.
This is a procedure we are required to do to stay up-to-date with DNR requirements. We apologize for any interruption in water service during the Flushing Program, if you have any questions please call City Hall at 641-472-5343 or the Fairfield Water Plant at 641-472-2358.
