City of Burlington issued the following announcement on Dec. 15.
The City Manager is very happy to announce he has selected Marc Denney to be Burlington’s new Police Chief. Marc Denney has over 30 years of experience with law enforcement. He is currently the Chief of Police in La Center, Washington and leads a department of 12. Prior to being Chief of Police, he was the Commander of Cochise County Sheriff’s Office in Bisbee, Arizona. He led and managed administrative and law enforcement activities of the 303-person Sheriff’s department. Denney has the following degrees from Wayland Baptist University in the criminal justice field: a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Education. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy Quantico, Virginia, class 248. The City Manager selected Denney from three finalists, who went through interviews with various City officials, City Staff and Community leaders earlier in December. All three finalists were highly qualified individuals with extensive backgrounds in law enforcement.
The Resolution for Council to officially approve the appointment of the new Police Chief was approved at the December 14, 2020 Special Council Meeting.
