President Donald Trump has promised the imminent arrival of a vaccine for COVID-19 and Louisa County is taking steps to ensure it is prepared for the day it comes to pass.
During a Louisa County Board of Health meeting in September, County Public Health Service Administrator Roxanne Smith said the distribution would go through public health departments in each county, The Muscatine Journal reported.
Fact sheets have been sent out to area medical providers with information in addition to gauging the amount of interest there would be for a vaccine. There are two vaccines that are closest to becoming ready for public use and each would require two doses, 28 days apart, The Muscatine Journal reported.
The options are known as Vaccine A and Vaccine B and Smith said she could not control which one her office would receive. She does have a plan in place for when it begins to arrive with distribution slated first for long-term care facilities.
