Louisa County could be reimbursed for COVID-19 expenses through the CARES Act program.
The Board of Supervisors was told it might receive $139,901 for COVID-19 expenses by submitting a claim through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act program. The federal relief program was funded by Congress and approved by President Donald Trump in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic this spring.
First Deputy Auditor Selena Gerst informed the board that the time spent by the sheriff’s office and county public staff in handling COVID-19-related activities is included in the claim. Gerst developed the claim based on her discussions with the auditor's office staff from other counties and also learned that she can file a one-time reimbursement. The deadline was Sept. 15 and Gerst said she submitted the county’s allocated amount to the state on Sept. 11.
“I talked about what their process was and how they were submitting what they were submitting,” Gerst stated in a release. “Since Louisa County submitted for its full allotment in the first round of applications, it would not be submitting anything during a later second round."
