The Louisa County Planning and Zoning Commission recently announced that three of the commission’s seven seats are now vacant following a legislative change that has disqualified commissioner Josh Hardin from serving, and the commission is seeking applicants to fill those seats.
The change came after Gov. Kim Reynolds signed House File 2512 into law on June 1, according to coverage by The Hawk Eye. The new law requires all members of the commission to live in the area affected by county zoning ordinances.
As a resident of Wapello, Hardin can no longer serve under the provisions of state law, according to coverage by The Hawk Eye.
The commission also approved a selection of zoning ordinance revisions and a change to the zoning classification of 10 property parcels following a public hearing, according to The Hawk Eye.
The changes to the county zoning ordinances and the change of 10 parcels surrounding the Thirsty Camel Restaurant and former Rodeo Grounds from A-1 residential to B-1 business zoning will still require a vote from the County Board of Supervisors, according to The Hawk Eye.
