The West Burlington School District recently announced a new back-to-school plan that states all K-12 students will have the option to attend in-person classes Monday through Thursday.

Students will also have the option to attend school virtually through the online program Monday through Friday if this is what their parents choose to do.

According to the new plan, Friday mornings will be used to work with students individually and/or in small groups in virtual and/or face-to-face settings. The school system is allowing teachers to determine how they choose to utilize the plan in discussions with the building principal.

Friday afternoons will also be used for the teacher's planning period. They can also use this time for collaboration and professional development.

Superintendent Lisa Beames recently highlighted the Des Moines County’s 14-day positivity rate. The rate has reached 3.28%. Beames added that the rate is far below Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds’ recommendation regarding transitioning to a hybrid back-to-school plan.
