Local leaders in Lee County Iowa are trying to find the delicate balance of protecting the public's health while also engaging in ways to boost the economy as non-essential businesses are shut down and the number of unemployed people continues to go up, due to COVID-19.
The Lee County Economic Development Group is partnering with local workforce organizations, state leaders and local leaders to address the pandemic's impact on the local economy and to come up with possible solutions, according to KHQA 7.
State Sen. Rich Taylor told KHQA 7, any business owner who was forced to shutdown their business, but believes their business is essential, needs to come speak with him directly, because local businesses need support during the health crisis.
"I'm not a big fan of going further and further in national debt," Taylor told KHQA 7. "I'm also not in favor of completely destroying our economy when we can fix it."
