CITY OF FAIRFIELD: The city council passed an ordinance amendment that allows overnight parking in the Central Business District

City of Fairfield issued the following announcement on Feb. 13. 

The city council passed an ordinance amendment that allows overnight parking in the Central Business District, except for monthly street cleaning and during snow emergencies.

Internal Snow Emergency Policy

Who: A snow emergency will be called by the Streets Superintendent, upon consultation with the City Administrator, City Engineer, and/or City Clerk. If the Street’s Superintendent is off work or unavailable, the City Engineer will call the snow emergency, upon consultation with the Assistant Street’s Superintendent, City Administrator, and/or City Clerk.

What: When a snow emergency is declared, the following statement will be issued: A snow emergency will be in effect for the Central Business District beginning at [time] on [date]. On street parking is prohibited between from 2nd Street to B Street and from Washington Avenue to Hempstead Avenue between 8 PM and 9 AM. This is in effect until [time – 48 hours] or until the street is plowed curb to curb.

When: The policy will be to provide notice of a snow emergency at least 12 hours prior to the effective time of the emergency. For example, if the emergency becomes effective at 8 PM, notice of the emergency will be provided by 8 AM. In cases when a storm is moving quickly, the notice maybe less than 12 hours at the discretion of City staff.

Where: A snow emergency will be declared via a press release which will be distributed to KMCD, The Southeast Iowa Union, Fairfield Media Center, Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, Fairfield Police Department and Fairfield Community Schools. The emergency will also be posted on the City’s Facebook Page. If the emergency is declared during regular working hours, the emergency will be posted to the City’s Website.
