Analysis: Teachers in West Burlington Independent School District earned 3.6 percent less than state average in 2018-2019

Full-time teachers in West Burlington Independent School District earned an average annual total salary of $57,066 in 2018-2019, according to the Iowa Department of Education.

That was 3.6 percent less than the average annual total salary of $59,220 for full-time public school teachers in the state.

The state defines a full-time teacher as someone earning a base salary of at least $33,500 (including salary paid from teacher leadership grant funds and excluding professional development) with "at least one teaching position code (including Teacher Leaders), a full-time equivalency for licensed positions of 0.8 or higher, and at least 180 contract days."

Total salary is the sum of the teacher's regular base pay and extra duty pay for things like coaching and club sponsorship.

The regular base pay for full-time teachers in West Burlington Independent School District in 2018-2019 was $54,002.

The Department of Education reported that the average full-time regular salary for public school teachers in Iowa in that same time frame was $57,463, a slight increase over 2017-2018 base salaries.
