CITY OF FAIRFIELD: The Carnegie elevator floor will be getting a new look thanks to a donation from Creative Edge

Announcement

City of Fairfield issued the following announcement on Nov. 28.

The Carnegie elevator floor will be getting a new look thanks to a donation from Creative Edge. State regulations require a few safety upgrades to the elevator by May 1, 2020. Given the age of the elevator, the City, Carnegie Board, and Carnegie Foundation decided to replace many of the mechanical items while the elevator was offline. Additionally, the elevator will get a new historic look while maintaining the safety and functionality of a modern elevator. The elevator panels will get vintage looking buttons that also have braille markings. The car walls will be faux-wood panels, more fitting of the building but more durable than solid wood. The most unique feature will be a custom floor provided by Creative Edge: the floor design will mimic other floor patterns found in the Carnegie building. A marble-like material will also be provided by Creative Edge for the base molding. The upgrades and improvements will be completed in the May or June of 2020. The public will be made aware of the elevator shut down closer to the actual construction date.
